Marc Hamoir a obtenu sa licence (1974) et son doctorat en médecine (1978) à la faculté de médecine de l'Université de Louvain, en Belgique. Il s'est ensuite spécialisé en oto-rhino-laryngologie (1982) et en chirurgie cervico-faciale (1986). Il a effectué un fellowship en chirurgie cervico-faciale aux Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc de Bruxelles et a poursuivi sa formation au MD Anderson Cancer Center de Houston, au Texas, au Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center de New York et au Children's Hospital de l'Université Harvard à Boston.

Le professeur Hamoir a ensuite occupé successivement les postes de maître de conférences (1986-1992) puis de professeur agrégé (1992-1997) en chirurgie cervico-faciale aux Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc de Bruxelles. En 1998, il a été nommé vice-président du département d'oto-rhino-laryngologie de ce même établissement. Par la suite, il a occupé simultanément trois postes : professeur titulaire à l'Université de Louvain, chef du service de chirurgie cervico-faciale et directeur exécutif de l'Institut du cancer Roi Albert II, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. Marc Hamoir a reçu quatre prix prestigieux, dont la bourse de la Fondation Saint-Luc en 1998. Il a été élu successivement membre associé (2009) puis membre titulaire (2014) de l'Académie royale de médecine de Belgique. En 2012, il a été élu membre du conseil d'administration de la Fondation belge contre le cancer, dont il est devenu président en 2014. Il en est actuellement le président d'honneur. Tout au long de sa carrière, le professeur Hamoir s'est fortement investi dans l'enseignement de la médecine aux étudiants de premier et de deuxième cycles à l'Université de Louvain, aux Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc et à l'international. Il est relecteur scientifique et membre des comités de rédaction et de conseil de 13 revues et comités nationaux et internationaux. Le professeur Hamoir est membre de 11 sociétés savantes nationales et internationales. Marc Hamoir possède une riche expérience de publication, avec plus de 280 articles, chapitres d'ouvrages et rapports à son actif. Il a également été invité à prendre la parole lors de plus de 80 congrès internationaux et nationaux. Il a acquis une solide expérience des essais cliniques au sein du Programme d'oncologie cervico-faciale de l'Institut du cancer Roi Albert II, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. Ses principaux domaines de recherche sont les facteurs pronostiques, l'évaluation des systèmes de stadification et la réponse thérapeutique dans le cancer de la tête et du cou.

Au début des années 1990, les professeurs Marc Hamoir et Guy Andry (Institut Bordet, ULB, Université libre de Bruxelles) ont fondé, avec le professeur Eric Fossion (KU Leuven), le Groupe interuniversitaire belge (BIG-GIB), dédié à la coopération en matière de recherche et de traitement du cancer de la tête et du cou. À la fin des années 1990, le groupe s'est scindé en deux entités : un groupe francophone (Groupe coopératif belge d'oncologie cervico-faciale, BHNOCG) et un groupe néerlandophone (Vlaamse Werkgroep Hoofd Hals Tumoren, VWHHT).

Marc Hamoir behaalde zijn bachelordiploma (1974) en zijn doctoraat (1978) aan de Faculteit Geneeskunde van de Universiteit Leuven, België. Vervolgens behaalde hij zijn certificering in keel-, neus- en oorheelkunde (1982) en hoofd- en halschirurgie (1986). Hij volgde een fellowship in hoofd- en halschirurgie aan de Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussel en bleef daar om zijn opleiding te voltooien aan het MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, VS, het Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, VS en het Children Hospital van Harvard University in Boston, Massachusetts, VS.
Professor Hamoir bekleedde vervolgens twee opeenvolgende functies als universitair docent (1986-1992) en universitair hoofddocent (1992-1997) in hoofd- en halschirurgie aan de Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussel. In 1998 werd hij benoemd tot vicevoorzitter van de afdeling keel-, neus- en oorheelkunde aan hetzelfde instituut. Daarna bekleedde hij drie parallelle benoemingen als gewoon hoogleraar aan de Universiteit Leuven, hoofd van de afdeling hoofd- en halschirurgie en uitvoerend directeur van het Koning Albert II Kankerinstituut, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. Marc Hamoir werd geëerd met vier prestigieuze prijzen, waaronder de Saint-Luc Foundation Scholarship in 1998. Hij werd achtereenvolgens verkozen tot geassocieerd lid (2009) en volwaardig lid (2014) van de Koninklijke Belgische Academie voor Geneeskunde. In 2012 werd hij verkozen tot lid van de raad van bestuur van de Belgische Stichting tegen Kanker, hij werd voorzitter van de Stichting in 2014 en bekleedt momenteel de functie van erevoorzitter. Tijdens zijn carrière was professor Hamoir sterk toegewijd aan het doceren van geneeskunde aan bachelor- en masterstudenten aan de Universiteit Leuven, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, en internationaal. Hij is wetenschappelijk reviewer, redactie- en adviesraadlid voor 13 nationale en internationale tijdschriften en commissies. Professor Hamoir is lid van elf nationale en internationale verenigingen. Hij heeft een uitgebreide publicatielijst, met meer dan 280 manuscripten, boekhoofdstukken en rapportartikelen. Daarnaast is Marc Hamoir uitgenodigd als spreker op meer dan 80 internationale en nationale congressen. Hij heeft aanzienlijke ervaring met klinische studies binnen het programma Hoofd- en halsoncologie van het Koning Albert II Kankerinstituut, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. Zijn belangrijkste onderzoeksinteresses omvatten prognostische factoren, beoordeling van stadiëringssystemen en therapeutische respons bij hoofd- en halskanker.
Begin jaren negentig richtten prof. Marc Hamoir en prof. Guy Andry (Bordet Instituut, ULB, Vrije Universiteit Brussel) samen met prof. Marc Hamoir obtained his BSc (1974) and MD (1978) from the Medical School of the University of Louvain, Belgium. Subsequently, he became board certified in Otolaryngology (1982) and in Head and Neck Surgery (1986). He held a Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, Brussels and stayed to complete his training at MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, USA, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New -York, New -York, USA and Children Hospital, Harvard University, Boston, Mass., USA.
Professor Hamoir went on to hold two consecutive positions as Assistant Professor (1986–1992) and Associate Professor (1992–1997), in Head and Neck Surgery at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc, Brussels. In 1998, he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Department of Otolaryngology at the same institute. Thereafter, he held three parallel appointments as, Full Professor at the University of Louvain, Head of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, and Executive Director of the King Albert II Cancer Institute, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. Marc Hamoir has been honored with four prestigious awards, including the Saint-Luc Foundation Scholarship in 1998. He was successively elected as Associate Member (2009) and Full Member (2014) of the Royal Belgian Academy of Medicine. In 2012 he was elected as member of the board of directors at the Belgian Foundation against Cancer, he became Chairman of the Foundation in 2014 and currently holds the position of Honorary Chairman. During his career, Professor Hamoir was strongly committed to teaching medicine to undergraduates and postgraduates at the University of Louvain, Cliniques Universitaires Saint Luc, and internationally. He is a scientific reviewer, an editorial and advisory board member for 13 national and international journals and committees. Professor Hamoir is a member of 11 national and international societies. He has an extensive publication record, as the author of more than 280 manuscripts, book chapters, and report articles. In addition, Marc Hamoir has been invited speaker at more than 80 international and national congresses. He had considerable clinical trial experience at the Head & neck Oncology Program of the King Albert II Cancer Institute, Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc. His main research interests include prognostic factors, assessment of staging systems and therapeutic response for head and neck cancer.

Le Dr Rachel Galot est médecin oncologue au sein du Service d’Oncologie Médicale et de l’unité d’essais cliniques de phase I aux Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc (Université catholique de Louvain, Bruxelles). Spécialisée dans la prise en charge des cancers de la tête et du cou, elle allie une activité clinique intensive à une recherche translationnelle axée sur la médecine de précision et les biomarqueurs personnalisés.
Après avoir obtenu son Master en Médecine avec grande distinction à l’Université catholique de Louvain, le Dr Galot a effectué sa formation en médecine interne et oncologie dans plusieurs hôpitaux belges, dont Saint-Luc. Elle a ensuite entrepris une thèse de doctorat au sein du laboratoire MIRO (Molecular Imaging, Radiotherapy & Oncology) de l’UCL, centrée sur les stratégies thérapeutiques personnalisées pour les carcinomes épidermoïdes des voies aéro-digestives supérieures.
Lauréate de plusieurs bourses de recherche (UCL, Télévie, FNRS), elle poursuit actuellement un post-doctorat, où ses travaux portent sur l’utilisation de la biopsie liquide et de l’ADN tumoral circulant pour la détection précoce et la surveillance de la maladie résiduelle minimale.
Membre active de nombreuses sociétés savantes, notamment l’EORTC, l’ESMO, l’ASCO et la BSMO, le Dr Galot contribue régulièrement à des essais cliniques internationaux et à des publications scientifiques de haut niveau dans le domaine de l’oncologie de précision.

Dr. Rachel Galot is medisch oncoloog bij de afdeling Medische Oncologie en de Fase I Klinische Studies van het Universitair Ziekenhuis Saint-Luc (Université Catholique de Louvain, Brussel). Ze is gespecialiseerd in de behandeling van hoofd-halskankers en combineert intensieve klinische praktijk met translationeel onderzoek gericht op precisiegeneeskunde en gepersonaliseerde biomarkers.
Na haar afstuderen met de hoogste onderscheiding aan de Université Catholique de Louvain voltooide dr. Galot haar opleiding tot internist en oncoloog in verschillende Belgische ziekenhuizen, waaronder Saint-Luc. Le Pr Sandra Schmitz est médecin oto-rhino-laryngologiste et chirurgienne cervico-faciale aux Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc et chercheuse clinicienne au FNRS. Spécialisée en chirurgie cervico-faciale et en cancérologie tête et cou, elle s'intéresse notamment plus spécifiquement aux méchanisms de résistance des carcinomes épidermoides à différentes thérapies, sujet qu'elle explore lors de sa recherche. Lauréate de plusieurs prix pour ses travaux en cancérologie ORL, elle allie activité clinique, enseignement et recherche au sein de l'équipe d'ORL de Saint-Luc.

Professor Sandra Schmitz is keel-, neus- en oorarts en hoofd-halschirurg aan de Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc en klinisch onderzoeker bij het FNRS. Ze is gespecialiseerd in hoofd-halschirurgie en hoofd-halskanker, en is met name geïnteresseerd in de resistentiemechanismen van plaveiselcelcarcinomen tegen verschillende therapieën, een onderwerp dat ze in haar onderzoek onderzoekt.
